Song of the lost

The sea of the trees
russet tinged, old gold,

the beat of the storm,
like my heart

ebbs n flows ebbs n flows

we’re waves on the reef
of life
weeping for summer

we’re waves on the reef
of life
uprooted battered

by the autumn
scourging.

The sea of the trees
russet tinged, old gold,

the beat of the storm
like my heart

ebbs n flows ebbs n flows:

branches tap tap tap
they whisper secrets
long forgotten

we’re waves on the reef
of life
weeping for summer

we’re waves on an alien shore
uprooted battered
by the autumn’s culling.

& the rain falls forever
like the tears of the child
buried deep within me

& the rain falls forever
like the tears of the child
buried deep within me.

It's winter’s crisp
confetti calling, calling,

I hear the crooning cry:
‘all must wither
all must die’

for some forgotten
promise.

The sea of the trees
russet tinged, old gold

the beat of the storm
like my heart

ebbs n flows ebbs n flows

we’re waves on the reef
of life
weeping for summer

& the rain falls forever
like the tears of the child
buried deep within me.
